Paintings in Paris
The charm of Paris is never ending and I return whenever possible both for the lifestyle and to capture on canvas the everyday life of the Parisian people as they enjoy their beautiful city. On exhibit in my gallery at the moment are paintings from my recent trip there in March of this year. I once again returned to my favourite spots & Montmatre, the Left Bank areas of St. Germain and the Latin Quarter and explored for the first time the picturesque Isle de St. Louis. |

Spring Showers on the Quai Voltaire
Pale Spring sunlight is shining through the rain clouds and highlighting the bookseller standing beside his stall on the left bank of the River Seine. These little book stalls known as bouquinistes line the banks of the river and are treasure troves of second-hand books and prints which passers-by can casually browse through a popular week-end pastime. Through the still bare trees can be seen the Pont d'Art and the Isle de Cite whilst the buildings of the Institute of France and Beaux Arts are seen reflected in the wet roads of the Quai Voltaire. Avenue Des Champs Elysees Paris
The Ave de Champs Elysees is a place of great parades, of stunning street fashion and café society. On this beautiful Spring day the people of Paris are out enjoying the sunshine, strolling along the boulevard's wide pavements and enjoying a cup of coffee in one of the many street side cafes to be found in this area. In the background can be seen the Arc de Triomph which was commissioned by Napoleon after his greatest victory, the battle of Austerlitz in 1805. Spring Morning in Montmartre
Montmartre and art are inseparable. By the end of the 19th century the area was a mecca for artists, writers and poets who gathered to sample the cabarets and taverns that abounded in the area. Today one can wander the little cobbled streets, sit at some of the same taverns and gaze at the houses where such great names as Toulouse-Lautrec, Van Gough and Salvador Dali once lived and painted. A crisp Spring morning with shafts of light shining down through the buildings onto the square where each day artists set up their easels to paint local scenes whilst in the background through the still bare trees can be seen the round spires of Sacre Coeur. Morning Coffee on the Boulevarde Grands Augustins
The soft silvery light that is special to this city is seen here shining onto the Boulevarde Grands Augustins on the Left bank of the River Seine. It is highlighting the bright awnings of this little café where people can stop for a while to enjoy the sunshine and gaze at the magnificent Notre Dame seen in the distance on the Isle de Cite.
